ABOUT US
Anchor Press, Paper & Print (AP3) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) community-based printmaking studio. We are the only fully equipped printmaking studio that is open for community access in Milwaukee, and possibly the state. Our goal is to create a community space for all to gain hands-on experiences with printmaking practices. We accomplish this through education, spreading access to printmaking equipment, unique programming, and community partnerships.
AP3 is a versatile space with a broad audience in our little city. Those seeking professional level printmaking equipment travel from near and far to use our space, as do those looking for an education in printmaking techniques through our workshops. We have an array of programming that includes our Emerging Artist Residency, Press on Wheels, internships, Thriving Artist initiative, work-study, studio member meet-ups, K-12 field trips, and community events. Some past community events include Steamroller MKE, Valentine's Day Make-and-Take, Fire + Water Artists' Book Festival, Rubber Stamp Jam, and Demo Days. Our Press on Wheels brings printmaking outside the shop walls to places like local K-12 schools through Future Urban Leaders, We Are Water through Milwaukee Water Commons, Red Magic festival, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, and The Bindery.
We love the eclectic group of people that we find working in our printshop together. On any given day you could find someone with decades of printmaking experience working alongside someone who just took their first workshop. We are proud to be an intergenerational space with people of all backgrounds and identities.

David Jones and Marilyn Propp founded the previous iteration of AP3, Anchor Graphics, in Chicago in 1990. For 25 years, they published fine art editions with artists from all over the world, plus provided shop access, residencies, internships, and exhibitions. Pictures and articles from our past are located below. David and Marilyn started a new community in 2022 when AP3 dropped anchor at the House of RAD. Now, with the help of many volunteers, AP3 is bringing print to the people of Milwaukee.
Acting Director, Jessica Meuninck Ganger, along with our Director of Programs & Operations, Julia Scheckel, and President Rachel Foster, are among the core group of those who make AP3 a reality, as well as the only public print shop in our city.

What Is Printmaking? According to the Met Museum:
"Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditional printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available techniques to include screenprinting."
